Get It When You Want It?
Major advertisers try, with a great read of success, to appeal to our worldly desires. They tell us they we can get it the way we want, we can get it when we wanted, and we deserve it. I sometimes wonder if Visa sees themselves as our passport to happiness and that self-control is unnecessary. But Paul, and Peter, and John, and James all urged believers to avoid worldly passions and deny ungodliness. They warn that you cannot have it when you want it in this world, and in the hereafter, despite all the commercials to the contrary. Material blessings have distinct limitations. You desperately need self restraint in order to remain pure and free from worldly contamination. 1 John 2: 15 -- 17 "Do not love the world...everything in the world...comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever." |
