Texas Gold Bars Recipe One night I ate a few warm brownies my wife had made. A little while later, I could hardly breathe. I went in to the clinic, and a nurse said, "Oh, an allergic reaction." In that moment, I found out that I had become allergic to chocolate. I thought it was a fate worse than death, as I loved chocolate. A couple of days later, one of the sweet little old ladies at church learned of my tragedy and she brought over a a plate of sweets and a recipe for me. She called it Texas Gold Bars. She told me it was somewhat like brownies but without chocolate. She was right, those wonderful Gold Bars saved me from despair. Here is the recipe: 1 package of yellow cake mix (Duncan Hines Supreme II) 1 egg 1 stick of oleo Mix together well and press into bottom of a 9x13 pan. 1 package of cream cheese, softened 2 eggs 1 box of powdered sugar Mix until smooth. Pour over first mixture. Sprinkle with chopped pecans. Bake for 40-45 minutes at 325 degrees. Enjoy! Contributor's Note For those who love chocolate, my wife has occasionally added chocolate chips to the recipe and everyone says the outcome is great.
